Book Ratings

Just in case you were ever curious about how I rate books, I thought I'd break it down for you here.

I work on a 5-star system, mostly because I use Goodreads for tracking of my books. I'll occasionally give half stars as well, which is usually noted in the text of my review.

I'm going to try and follow Goodreads' system as best I can. We'll see how that goes!

☆☆☆☆☆  (0 out of 5 stars)
Did not finish (DNF)
I couldn't get through it, couldn't get into it or ended up skimming and scanning until the end.

★☆☆☆☆  (1 out of 5 stars)
Did not enjoy.
For whatever reason, this book just wasn't working for me. Be it the plot, characters, setting, believability, whatever. It was not my thing.

★★☆☆☆ (2 out of 5 stars)
It was okay.
Parts of this book were decent, but it had more problems than enjoyable parts. It was underwhelming.

★★★☆☆ (3 out of 5 stars)
I liked/enjoyed it.
Enjoyable enough, but the book probably never really did anything extraordinary or blew me away. I like these books well enough though and am not sorry I read them.

★★★★☆ (4 out of 5 stars)
I really liked/enjoyed it.
Books here are ones I'd go out of my way to keep, buy or lend and recommend to friends. Some of these are on my favourites shelf as well.

★★★★★ (5 out of 5 stars)
I loved it.
A rarity, I think. Given to a book that has exceeded my expectations in every sense of the word. A book I raced through, could not put down or could not stop thinking about. A book that made me laugh, made me cry, made me feel. A favourite that I will absolutely recommend to almost literally everyone all the time. (Occasionally I am so overwhelmed by how good these books are that I have to fight off the urge to throw them across the room whilst reading.)
